Wattsmart® Program Network Sets a New Record
This year, the Wattsmart program helped residential customers in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming save over 25 million kWh annually! Here’s what that looks like in real-world terms. These savings are equivalent to:
- Driving 46 million miles in a typical gasoline-powered car.
- Powering 2,953 homes for a full year.
- Saving 42,104 barrels of oil.
- Charging over 1.3 billion smartphones.
In addition, our trade ally network set a new record by installing 5,000 heat pumps – a remarkable achievement! Heat pumps are particularly beneficial in our region, as they help customers reduce energy consumption and lower local emissions. The majority of these installations were completed by our Pro Network, a group of trusted partners committed to the highest Wattsmart standards. These professionals ensure high-quality installation, deliver superior customer service and provide a streamlined rebate application process, making it easier for customers to upgrade to more efficient systems.
Pro Network Exceeds Expectations
The heat pump Pro Network launched earlier this year, and our cohort of “Pros” continues to impress with strong partnerships and the lion’s share of heat pump applications submitted.
The Pro Network accounted for 56% of total heat pump applications for the year – this is impressive, considering they make up only 15% of total program trade allies.
The purpose of the Pro Network is to enhance working relationships with trade allies through communication, co-branding opportunities and local promotions/events.
This leads to enhanced program awareness, contractor promotion and the best overall experience for the customer.
The Pro Network is open to any trade ally, provided they can meet the network’s requirements:
- Lead with heat pumps when talking to customers.
- Provide load calculations.
- Submit customer applications.
- Demonstrate positive year-over-year application growth.
- Show accountability for non-qualifying applications (if promised).

Pro Network Appreciation Event
We are actively planning our inaugural appreciation event for our Pro Network contractors. The event will take place on February 26, 2025, and give the Wattsmart® program team a chance to thank you for all your hard work in 2024. We’ll have awards and stage a competitive, fun activity. The event will also give Pro Network contractors a first look at any upcoming valuable updates and insights to ensure we are planning the program changes together!
Of course, food will be provided. It promises to be a good time!
Inflation Reduction Act Programs for Utah
Many of you have asked questions about the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) programs for the state of Utah, so we wanted to offer some insight. The state of Utah was awarded early administration funds to begin developing the application it needs to submit to the Department of Energy for approval in January 2025.
Once these applications are approved, program design will begin. Rocky Mountain Power is not anticipating IRA programs will be in place until late 2025.
